The Mitrataa Foundation's vision is to do itself out of a job in Nepal. Founded by Australian couple, Bec and Adam Ordish, Mitrataa works with women and girls, teaching them to dream and empowering them through education and training initiatives.
The Foundation's model is to share skills and create opportunities that encourage the people of Nepal to take responsibility for their future.
The poem below, by Carole Fontaine, perfectly captures Mitrataa's vision and inspiration for our work in Nepal:
Do not show me tiny crowds of handpicked men; Do not regale me with films of gunfire in the air.
Show me battalions of little girls, if you can - Healthy and learned, with futures and names. Show me their mothers, with homes all arrayed In abundance and peace, with colour and song.
It will only be victory when the women sing in the streets ...safe to choose, to live, to learn, to love. It will only be victory when the women sing.
