Model School Model School

Teacher training programs form an important part of our work in terms of providing sustainable development programs to Nepal. As mentioned in the Teacher Training section we have set up a teacher training program in the new Model School with the first session having been run in October 2007 and further sessions run in April 2008.

We have worked with our partner organization CWISH on the establishment of a Model School in Kathmandu. An existing school was purchased late in 2007 and the Foundation is working with CWISH and the school's board to develop a model for other schools in terms of its approach to teaching and the opportunities it provides for students. During 2008 the school will start hosting teachers from rural areas of Nepal for residential teacher training programs. This will enable us to reach many more teachers and therefore students throughout Nepal without the investment in infrastructure and administration that might typically be required.

The school is located in Maijubahal which is in Kathmandu quite nearby to Boudhanath. It presently runs classes from Nursery to Class 10 and has around 20 dedicated and enthusiastic teaching staff.

Current Status
  • We are presently working to expand the school's library which has been established with the assistance of Room to Read, the library has also received donations of books and resources from a number of individuals and organisations in Australia.

  • We are also finalising the layout and equipment requirements for a training room which will become the central headquarters for all of the Foundation's teacher training initiatives.

  • The school also serves as a great location for scholarship students to study and we have enrolled a number of these students into the school under the Dream Catchers project.
How YOU Can Help
  • If you have any unwanted or surplus resources, text books or other teaching materials which may be useful for the school, we'd love to hear from you.
