Thulo April 2008!

Thulo is the Nepali word for 'big' and that fittingly describes the work we will be doing in Nepal in April this year. If you have read through the various pages under the 'Projects' heading on this site you will see that almost all of the projects either have components to be done in April or in the case of some of the bigger long term projects they will be launched in April.

You can read the details of each of the projects on their pages and in some cases in our blog postings but here is a brief summary:
  • Launch of the 100 Views program with our friend, Libby Hathorn. This will include an initial set up and teacher training program which will be done by Libby, and will be followed up with assistance in implementing the first program from the group of students and teachers who will be visiting Nepal from MLC in Sydney. All of this will be conducted at the Model School.

  • Conducting our first Women in Journalism workshop which will be run by our friend, Janet O'Connor. This is the result of the very successful Women Journalists' Forum that Janet led when in Kathmandu last October. The course will be held over 4 mornings and will cover basic journalism skills as well as offering exposure to samples of the many different types of media found both in Nepal and Australia.

  • Visit by a group of students and teachers from MLC (a private girls' school in Sydney). We will have the opportunity to share our work and experiences with a group of approximately 35 people from MLC. They will spend a week helping us with a number of existing projects as well as establishing some new projects with which we hope they will have on ongoing involvement. An overview of their itinerary can be found at http://mitrataa.blogspot.com/2007/07/exciting-plans-for-2008.html. In addition to the activities mentioned in the blog posting, MLC will also be visiting Bal Mandir orphanage with us. There they will be conducting a fun class for the children on the importance of personal hygiene as well as looking after our wider environment. We are also anticipating that this time will see the launch of the Pets as Therapy project.
So as you can see, thulo or big doesn't really begin to describe the amount of exciting and rewarding projects we will be embarking on in April! As with all of our work we are always looking for anyone interested in helping in any way, whether it be through donations of money or resources, or giving some of their time or expertise. If you are interested in finding out more or contributing in some way, you can contact us at adam@mitrataa.org or bec@mitrataa.org.
